Rhett Hughes - Innovation Specialist

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back students!  So glad you are here, and I'm thankful to have the opportunity to learn with you this school year!  I hope you will find the class engaging and informative.  Please know that my door is always open for you if you have questions / concerns about anything.  If you prefer, you can email me at rhett.hughes@darlington.k12.sc.us (it is helpful to let me know if you sent an email because often our spam filter will block emails coming from an outside email account).

A LITTLE ABOUT ME...

I am starting my 17th year in the classroom, but my 12th at Darlington High School.  I'll be teaching Government / Economics, and facilitating the dual credit Sociology, Psychology, Government, and Economics classes.  I also serve as the technology integration specialist.  I could not be any happier than I am as a Falcon - we have so much to be proud of at DHS, from the superb students, fantastic faculty, and premier programs!

Prior to being a Falcon, I was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, moved to SC for high school, went to Wake Forest University, taught in Knoxville, TN, moved to Rhode Island where I earned by masters degree in social studies education from the University of Rhode Island, and finally settled in the Pee Dee and joined the Falcon Family for the 2005-2006 school year.  In addition, through the years I have the unique privilege of saying that I have been and stayed in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, China, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Belarus.  So I've collected a global perspective in my wanderings that I love sharing with my social studies students to help make them better US and world citizens.  My wife and I have two wonderful children (9 and 5 years old) and a couple of dogs, one of which we just adopted this past summer.  My passion is traveling, so a couple of years ago we bought a truck and a camper and are doing our best to take our kids all over the country.  Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please let me know how I can help you!
