Taking College Classes

Students who are already in the DHS Early College Honors Program and who wish to enroll in the dual credit courses must meet the requirements listed below in order to be eligible to take the college classes after tenth grade.  

1) Students need to apply to Florence-Darlington Technical College and Francis Marion University.  These schools accredit the college courses that students take at DHS.  This does not mean your child has to then go to FDTC or FMU after high school; rather, this allows a student's credit earned in the college classes to transfer to any other South Carolina state college or university.  

2) Students need to earn qualifying Next Generation Accuplacer scores and/or take certain English and Math prerequisite courses while maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in order to take college courses.  These requirements vary depending on the institution from which the courses are offered.

The Next Generation Accuplacer is FDTC's admissions test and is offered at DHS once per school year.   Students still needing qualifying test scores may test at FDTC a second time for an assessment fee of $10 charged by FDTC.

      Reading: 250+ 
     Writing: 250+

3) Students need to speak to the ECHP Coordinator to discuss course options and then request college classes through their school counselor at DHS.
